Reasons to visit the Dordogne region of France

There are many reasons to visit and explore the Dordogne region of France. Some of the key highlights inlude:

Lascaux caves.

The prehistoric paintings at Lascaux are probably the most renowned cave paintings in the world. The cave paintings you can now visit are a copy of the prehistoric paintings contained in the original Lascaux caves, 200 metres away, because human breath was damaging the originals. The replica paintings have been made using the same materials and techniques as were used for the original paintings, 19,000 years ago.

The Lascaux cave paintings are mostly pictures of large animals, including the 'auroch' - a now extinct early relative of the ox (it is thought that the Auroch was worshiped as a sacred beast in prehistoric times). Truly a remarkable experience, and you quickly forget that you are looking at modern day replicas.

Sarlat

Sarlat is a beautiful medieval town a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. The old town, dating from both medieval and renaissance times is a pleasure to visit, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better.

Wander through the back streets around the cathedral to get a feel for how the town must have been 500 years ago.

Les Eyzies

Les Eyzies is at the centre of a very beautiful area, in the Vezere Valley, with numerous cliff and rock formations, surrounded by rivers, hills and tranquil countryside. At the centre of prehistoric life in Europe, there are several interesting cave systems and prehistoric relics to visit around Les Eyzies.

Les Eyzies is also home to the National Prehistory Museum which houses one of the worlds most complete collections of prehistoric artefacts. Just a couple of hundred metres from the National Prehistory museum is Abri Pataud, a cro-magnon shelter dating back almost 40,000 years. The cave-lined Vzre valley has been classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO

Chateaux

In the Dordogne region there are reputed to be 1001 chateaux. Many of the most magnificent are open to the public. Start perhaps with the Chateau de Commarque, Chateau de Castelnaud, or (my personal favourite) Chateau de Beynac, set high above the Dordogne river and the attractive village of Beynac.

Each has its own impressive tale to tell of centuries of conflict, often between the French and the English during the Hundred Years War, and each has its own magnificent views over the surrounding countryside.

Most beautiful villages

There are several villages in the Dordogne region that have received the prestigious Most Beautiful Villages of France award. These include Monpazier, a perfectly preserved medieval bastide town to the south of the region; La Roque-Gageac, a picture postcard village spread out along the Dordogne river, with troglodyte dwellings and a tropical garden spreading up the cliff behind; and Beynac, mentioned above for its castle but equally attractive as a village in its own right

Several other villages in the immediate vicinity also have the award.

The Dordogne region provides a glimpse into a world virtually unchanged as the centuries have unfolded, and a visit is always an unforgettable experience.

Blog Search - Does Anyone Really Do That?

What do Google Blog Search, Technorati, Blogwise, IceRocket and Blogger all have in common? BLOGS... and lot's of them. People from all walks of life are jumping on the blogging band-wagon these days. And why shouldn't they? It's free of charge in most cases, and anyone can do it. You don't have to be a computer expert to create your own nook on the world wide web anymore.

But with all of these new blogs being created daily, there needs to be a way to consolidate, categorize and locate them. That's where blog search engines and directories come in. The previously mentioned blog search engines are only a drop in the bucket, however. There are many, many others out there. But there is a question among critics going around that needs answering- "Does anyone actually use blog search engines or directories"?

Well, I will answer their question with another question- "Would Google jump into something nobody would use"?

To question the usefullness of blog search is like questioning the usefullness of THE FOOD NETWORK. Just because you don't enjoy cooking does not mean that nobody else does. Is the blogosphere self-driven? Of course! But then again, so is the Food Network, and any other market. So that's not an applicable arguement either.

The claims that blog search engines and directories are useless is propelled by people who don't like the idea of the "average Joe" (or Jane for that matter) being able to have his own virtual web site. These individuals feel less special because grandma now has her own internet address, even though she could not write a line of code to save her life.

When I started my blog directory, I ran into a lot of criticism from people who felt insecure in this way. I received e-mail telling me my blog directory was "worthless", and that "nobody uses blog directories". I am glad I did not let them get to me. Today my directory receives more traffic than I ever could have hoped for, and it is growing every month. I also frequent other blog directories and search engines in support of the blogosphere as well.

Maybe someday the blog search critics will get over themselves, and join in on the wonderful world of blogging. Am I being overly optimistic? Maybe. But then again, who knows?

Help, My Baby Needs A Crib!

I thought that the readers at Article City would be interested in some helpful hints about how to save money on cribs and crib bedding when you are having a baby. I have a four year old son and a one year old daughter and have learned from them what the baby nursery essentials are. Here are some details about cribs and crib bedding:

Expensive crib bedding

1. With my son, I splurged and purchased a crib set that cost approximately $280. I had a 20% off coupon for a baby store so the cost was $224. Still, that is expensive. Included in the set were a quilted bumper, a quilted crib size comforter, one fitted sheet, and a dust ruffle for under the mattress. I ended up not using the comforter because it was too heavy and I was afraid the baby would be too hot. Instead I used handmade crocheted blankets that were given to us as gifts. These blankets worked out better because I could layer them and they were easier for the baby to throw off of him if he tossed around at night.

Priced separately at Target.com, these four items would have cost $79.96. The price of the sheet is $7.99, a chenille blanket is $16.99, the crib bumper is $39.99 and a dust ruffle is $13.99. Of course, the prices of these items vary depending on your choice of fabric and designer, but the difference between what I paid in the baby store for bedding set and what I would have paid at Target to purchase these items separately is $144.04!

After my son was born, I purchased a blanket and sheet from Target to match the expensive crib set and the quality of these items are excellent! My son still uses the Target sheet and blanket for nap time in his pre-school.

Expensive Crib

2. The cost of a new crib depends on the features you need and the type of wood used. There are 3-in-1, 4-in-1 and 5-in-1 cribs. 3-in-1 cribs are cribs which can turn into a toddler or a full size bed. 4-in-1 cribs function as a crib, toddler bed, daybed and full-size bed. 5-in-1 cribs function as a crib, a toddler bed, a full-size bed and loveseat. The 5-in-1 cribs are really the same as the 4-in-1 type. Other cribs come with an extra drawer underneath. As you can see, it is very confusing to figure out the different crib choices. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to determine the features you need:

* Do I need the extra drawer?
* Will I use this crib as a toddler bed?
* Will I want to purchase a special kind of transition to a toddler bed (such as a train or princess bed)? If so, the toddler bed feature is unnecessary.
* How many babies are going to be using this crib? You may want to purchase a certain color wood or look for a higher quality crib if you plan on having more than one baby.

The ultimate choice would be to receive a free crib from someone whose children dont need it anymore! The price of a crib ranges from $200 for a basic model to over $2000 for a hand painted sleigh bed crib.

I purchased my crib in 2002 at Sears and I paid approximately $280 for it. It is made of oak wood and didnt come with the mattress (most cribs do not have the mattress included). I am currently using it for my daughter and when she graduates to a toddler bed, I will donate it to a non profit daycare center or to charity.

Where To Get Deals On Makeup

If you love to wear makeup but hate to pay full price for your lipstick, mascara, compact, or blusher, not to worry. There are plenty of ways for the frugal shopper to enhance her loveliness without breaking the bank. Check out these ideas for finding low-cost makeup:

Use Coupons!

Plenty of makeup manufacturers offer great rebates and coupons. In fact, if you look through your department, pharmacy, and grocery store circulars each week to see whats on sale, you may actually be able to snag a great makeup deal. Consider this if a concealer is typically $8, but is on sale for $6 and you have a coupon to save you $2, youll only pay half (or $4).

Check Out Clearance Aisles

Most stores have an aisle or two devoted to the items that havent sold well, and often those items include makeup. And dont worry its not all green eyeshadow and black nail polish. You can absolutely find some top-quality makeup in shades and colors youll love. And some clearances are up to 90% off. Imagine buying a product that retails for $10 at a cost of $1! Wow!

Host a Party

Have a friend who sells makeup as a side business? Why not host a party for her? Mary Kay, Avon, and other makeup sales reps all love to reward the hostess with free gifts and chits for makeup purchases. Youll be able to use name-brand merchandise without having to spend much (if anything) at all.

Check Out Online Stores

There are some online merchants who sell top-end makeup for very little. First, see what you can find on the popular auction sites; next, type cheap makeup into your search engine. Again, youll never know whats out there for a few bucks until you dig around! And its worth the effort to make an awesome makeup find!

Look for Samples

At many high-end department stores, you can snag great makeup deals just by asking. As you peruse the makeup kiosks (such as Estee Lauder and Revlon), casually ask the sales staff if they have any makeup samples you could try. Often, the sample sizes are quite ample and may last for a while. Its a terrific way to reward yourself with some exceptional makeup for virtually nothing (except the cost to get to the store!)

Haunt Yard Sales

Believe it or not, you can find makeup at yard and garage sales! The only thing you have to be concerned about is making sure any makeup you purchase from these places has never been opened. Otherwise, the makeup could be contaminated with bacteria which could make your face break out. Also, look for expiration dates; sometimes, makeup at yard sales has expired. (Thats why its there.) But dont let this stop you many a person has gotten rid of makeup she doesnt care for (or was given as a gift), and itll be a reward for you!

By being a little innovative, you can find terrific ways to save on makeup.

Baby Bath Tub - A Necessity Or A Luxury?

Deciding to buy a baby bath tub may be as easy as a picking out cute little baby booties, or as hard as choosing the right name for your baby. With prices on some infant bath tubs as high as 30 and 40 dollars; many may wonder if having one is really a necessity, or just an expensive baby luxury.

Well consider this The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that dozens of children drown each year. Two-thirds of these accidents happened in the home in bath tubs. While the majority of these drownings took place when the child was left unattended, a few incidences occurred while a parent was trying to give their baby a bath in an adult-sized tub and the child just simply slipped away.

For safety reasons, baby bath tubs are clearly a necessity, especially during those first few months when an infant cannot sit up or provide their own support.

Many of these specialized baby tubs are designed with slings or hammocks that will hold a newborn securely in place. Others have a foam grip inside that will prevent slipping. All of them are small enough to fit inside a regular bath tub which gives the parent the convenience of bathing their baby in an environment that is water-friendly and easy to keep clean.

But make sure you do some research and read product reviews on the various baby bath tubs on the market before you fork over your hard earned cash. A tub that is perfect for one baby may be a complete disaster for another. A Soothing Spa and Shower Baby Bath Tub may sound like a wonderful thing, but if you later find out that the sprayer is too difficult to use you may end up feeling ripped off. Thats why it is always best to find out what other parents have to say before you buy.

Lastly, if you are giving your baby a bath for the very first time, consult your pediatrician or get some information online on how to do it right. Experts say you should not immerse a baby in bath water before the umbilical cord has fallen off or the circumcision has healed. Sponge baths are the only way to go in the first few weeks. You should also line up all of your baby bath items before you start the bath.

More importantly, NEVER EVER leave a baby unattended in a bath tub! If you have to leave the room, take your baby with you.

Decorating Should Not Come First

Organizer shows are popular on television right now. You know, the ones where a team of people descend on a messy house and spend a frantic weekend clearing clutter, organizing and re-decorating a room or two. Usually someone who lives in the house has requested the services of the commando organizers. These shows fascinate me. I guess its because the houses are so beyond messy and cluttered and disorganized that my own closets look pretty good in comparison.

Anyway, the last show I saw featured a couple with the usual collection of knick-knacks and keepsakes and old clothes and broken what-nots. This particular show required each of the homeowners to select a favorite item they did not want to discard. A yard sale was held and each person tried to outsell the other. The money collected from the yard sale was kept separately for each and at the end of the sale, the money was counted. The person who sold the most got to keep his or her treasured item. The other person lost whatever item had been selected as the favorite.

In this case, the man lost. His treasured item was a stuffed animal that his father had signed. His father is deceased and the little stuffed dog was quite special to the man. The man had tears in his eyes as the organizer yanked the toy away from him. I thought that the mans wife would surely offer to relinquish her item, which did not have a sentimental connection, but no.

Now, Im all for organizing and tossing out old or broken or unneeded items. A good decorating plan almost always starts with clearing the clutter and cutting down on items that take up storage space. I also believe that decorating means creating beauty, convenience, comfort, and a sense of belonging to the space we live in. We should not have to give up the things that have meaning to us, that touch a special place in our hearts, for the sake of a decorated room. The things that we cherish have contributed in some way to the creation of who we are now. If you banish the treasures, do you banish the person?

Im not saying that nothing gets tossed. Some items are just things that we have grown accustomed to having around. We might miss them a bit when they are gone, but they arent really treasures. Maybe it has been too much trouble to sort through, box up, decide what to do with, and ultimately dispose of. Or maybe, like me, you think that as soon as you get rid of whatever it is, youll discover the perfect use for it. These arent treasures. However, if you get a strong gut reaction when you think about disposing of a particular item, put it aside. If youre anything like me, you have a great pile of stuff to sort through and you likely wont get that inner no with everything. Remove the things you feel comfortable getting rid of and congratulate yourself for getting that far.

An important point- if you are decorating (or organizing) a room for someone else, you must be sensitive to what is important to that person. It may look like an old worn stuffed animal to you, but it might mean more than you know to someone else. Decorating should not take first priority in our lives.

Preflight for Graphic Design and Prepress, an Application or Process?

Many designers and prepress operators may think of Preflight as an application. An application that runs on files to verify files and identify potential problems. I have trained hundreds of operators in how to prepare First Time Right Postscript and PDF files. That's the first thing that I set folks straight on.

Preflight is a process. It's a process of going through every predictable problem that can happen with your printing job. If you think it's a software that you run and that's it, you are not going to be able to produce First Time Right PDF files. There are many, many things that software cannot even check for, and things unique to YOUR jobs, customers, company that are important. Things that MUST be checked to ensure success and accuracy.

50% of commercial printing is destined for a delay or additional costs:

Publishers and printers regularly report more than 50 percent of the digital files they receive are improperly prepared to spec. Thus, these files will need preflight & then repair to go forward. This may be done by a publisher, printer, or kicked back to the graphic designer. At stake is the budget and schedule of the print project. Now, think about that... 50% of commercial printing projects are destined for a delay in schedule or additional costs when submitted!

A graphic design project may be made for print, web, and or video. Depending on the type of media, documents must be prepared exactly to specifications based on final output media. Common file flaws include fonts not embedded or supplied, color space(CMYK vs. RGB, or inappropriate use of Pantone or specialty colors), and resolution conflicts. These are some of the many things that can be identified quickly by Preflight tools. A Preflight tool is utility software that is specially suited to help identify these file issues.

Preflight Software, helpful, required, but not a Whole Solution:

So there are tools that help. But what about things you have to identify by visual inspection? What about bleed and trim margins, placement and position, checking dates on event ads and coupon ads. What about checking every full page ad that is a repeat to be sure that the folio (page number) is deleted or updated. What about copy flow from 2 successive documents in a publication. These are all things that must be checked visually by a human. So, if you want to be a top notch designer or prepress operator, there is a list of important Preflight items that you, the human, must check. I always advise people to develop and update THEIR LIST every time a mistake is found or caught. Use the list as a checklist often enough that it becomes completely automatic to you as you prepare and process graphics files. If you get burned on a project, think of making that a part of your preflight checklist. An example or beginning preflight checklist can be found at this URL, review it and use it as a starting point.

Preflighting Applications, Help, and History of Preflight:

I once read an article that stated Preflight Applications were invented in the 1990's. Actually, preflight applications are nothing new at all. The early layout applications like Quark Xpress, Aldus PageMaker, Adobe Photoshop, Ready Set Go, were the first preflight applications. Preflight applications were invented in the 80's, and have been improved upon and developed since. Today there is a Free Preflight Tool available called FreeFlight at the URL below, you can download the software free and get free help and support.
http://FREE-PREFLIGHT.com

There is also an online community at PREPRESSFORUM.COM that has extensive and free, user to user support. I help folks there most every day and the site is chock full of great insider tips, tricks, problems and solutions. I would encourage any designer, publisher, or printer to join and participate, teach or learn. All experience levels are welcome to post and answer questions at this site.

Examples of First Preflight Software Tools:

Example (A) PageMaker has a links palette that scanned through the document providing a report about images linked/missing, RGB/CMYK, Tiff/EPS, etc. This was a preflight results report covering the main document AND many support document files combined. Thus Pagemaker was a preflight tool that could report on files originating from other applications, like scans. It would give the user a list of confirmations and or problems identified that was to be used to repair and prepare files prior to output.

Example (B) Quark Xpress has had a usage palette, when called, it scans through the open document providing detailed reports about fonts used/missing, images used/missing/modified, image types, image colors, image paths. This was a preflight results report covering the open document AND many support document files combined. Thus Quark Xpress was a preflight tool that could report on files originating in other applications, like scans. It would give the user a list of confirmations and or problems identified that was to be used to repair and prepare files prior to output. Additionally Quark Xpress may have started collect for output, a feature mentioned in other patents from the 1990's regarding preflight software invention.

Example (C) Adobe Photoshop was used to inspect and verify images. Back in the day, a user would grab all the Tiffs and Eps placed into a job. The selected files drag & dropped onto Adobe Photoshop would automatically open and display the color space in the title bar of each file, CMYK/RGB/Grayscale etc. Thus Adobe PhotoShop was a preflight tool that could report on files originating from other applications. An operator could open the Image size palette and verify resolution before closing each document. Thus a semi-automatic preflight of graphic images was performed. So, yes, Adobe Photoshop was and still is a preflight application and a file repair application that could inspect and identify problems in files which it did not originate.

Preflighting, Today's Hottest Current Applications:

QuarkXpress 6.5, QuarkXpress 7, Adobe InDesign CS2, these applications have built in preflight function these days. Unlike all other preflight software, these are native function that is fast and effective. Best of all, they come at no additional cost to the designer, publisher, or printer. These are built into both of today's most common preflight applications.

However, there's a few very critical holes in the built in preflight of these applications. No need to worry, there's a FREE preflight application caller FreeFlight that has been recently released to address this. The application is a free download from a Quark Xtension and Adobe Plug-In developer site . FreeFlight is a must have tool that supplements the use of QuarkXpress and Adobe InDesign CS2 built in preflight. You can download and read about FreeFlight at this URL.
http://FREE-PREFLIGHT.com

"Preflighting" as a printing term came to popularity in the 1990s as printers and service bureaus ensured that problematic files would be caught and fixed before they found their way into CTF (Computer to Film) workflow. In this century the term has evolved into other variations, like post-flight, indicating when in the workflow the file is actually verified. To Preflight is proactive quality control, Postflight is reactive quality control. Preflight is good manufacturing process, Postflight is not. This may be a nice topic for later. Take my word on it and avoid Postflight workflow schemes. Real craftsmen and professionals find and fix all problems at the earliest possible point. Many of these tools below are actually post-flight oriented tools.

Preflighting, The Older Expensive Applications for the job at hand:

Markzware FlightCheck Classic: This preflight software is developed by Markzware Software. Markzware's FlightCheck Classic is a standalone application that scans, verifies and collects each job for output. Currently available as version 5.8 (6.0 was due out this fall), Although it was the gold standard for years and is still a great tool, the software is not staying current with releases of software. Example Quark Xpress 7. Markzware's FlightCheck Classic will preflight a wide range of digital file formats, including PDF documents and those created in most popular native application programs (QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, PageMaker, etc.). Ground Controls enable users to highlight potential problems, out of more than 150 choices, for which to search. Single-user licenses for Windows and Mac users are available for about $400. This software is no longer recommended because development does not stay current with the support of new application versions that it's users face every day like Quark Xpress 7.
http://www.markzware.com

Markzware FlightCheck Collect!: This preflight software deemed the "lite" version of Markzware's FlightCheck Classic, FlightCheck Collect! inspects for common file problems, like improperly assigned color space, missing fonts and image or resolution conflicts. Once preflighted, the application can then collect the document, including images, extensions and screen and printer fonts, for output. Markzware offers Windows and Mac versions for around $180. This software is no longer recommended because development does not stay current with the support of new application versions that it's users face every day like Quark Xpress 7.
http://www.markzware.com

Markzware HawkEye: This preflight software from Markzware is HawkEye, a preflighting tool designed specifically for designers and content creators. It runs as a plug-in to most popular desktop publishing applications like QuarkXPress, Illustrator, Acrobat, FreeHand and more. Before content is created, designers can create specifications (known as TrueFileSpecifications) for each job they plan to create. For example, an art director can choose the color schema or font set to use. If the designer mistakenly places an element into the document that doesn't meet the TrueFileSpecifications, he or she is immediately alerted to the discrepancy. Users can also choose to forbid saving or printing a file that is in a "failed" or "unfixed" state, helping to better manage revisions, versions and cut down on consumable waste. This product from Markzware was advertised and was on a seybold Hot Picks 2002 but may have been pulled or may have never made it to market, unable to confirm at Markzware's site?
http://www.markzware.com

PDF/X-1 Verifier 2.0: This preflight software developed for the DDAP (Digital Distribution of Advertising for Publication association, www.ddap.org), this application verifies the integrity of PDF/X-1a files, the professional format of choice for print advertising. This application is suited for both digital ad designers as well as file recipients like publishers, prepress suppliers and printers. It offers pass-fail results or more comprehensive preflight reports. DDAP members can purchase single-seat licenses for about $95; non-members pay about $125.
http://www.ddap.org

Apago PDF/X-1 CheckUp: This preflight software developed by Apago offers PDF/X-1 CheckUp 2.5, a plug-in to Adobe Acrobat that preflights and produces PDF/X files. It supports both ISO (International Standards Organization) PDF/X-1:2001 and PDF/X-1a:2001 standards. Mac and Windows versions are available for Acrobat 4.0.5 and 5.0, for about $250ea.
http://www.apagoinc.com

Enfocus PitStop Professional: This preflight software developed by Enfocus Software, PitStop Pro preflights and edits PDF documents. It checks for 140 potential problems and offers 70 automated correction features. After running the document through preflight, users can edit existing objects and text, or add new elements. It's also equipped to re-map color space or tag/detag images with ICC (International Color Consortium) profiles. The software comes with several common PDF profiles to select according to a file's final destination. Windows and Mac versions of PitStop Professional are available for about $550. Enfocus Pitstop is a great tool for repairing bad PDF files. However, it is not recommended as a Preflight solution. Since the PDF is the end result, to check a PDF files is really Postflight, a good preflight workflow is about making good PDF in the first place.
http://www.enfocus.com

Extensis Preflight Pro: This preflight software is developed by Extensis, Preflight Pro inspects entire folders of native application documents created in popular desktop publishing applications like QuarkXPress, Acrobat, Illustrator, PageMaker, Photoshop and FreeHand. Following preflight inspection, the software then collects the job for output. Mac version is available for about $400.
http://www.extensis.com

TIFF/IT-P1 Checker: This preflight software developed for DDAP by Congruent Development, TIFF/IT-P1 Checker is a bundle of software tools, that includes TIFF/IT-P1 Preflight. Suited for both digital ad and packaging designers, it also represents a low-cost tool for any manufacturing partner that receives a large number of TIFF/IT-P1 files. It's available in both Mac and Windows versions and costs about $100 for DDAP members, $180 for non-members.
http://www.ddap.org

Asura & Solvero: This preflight software created by OneVision Software AG, Asura eliminates frequently occurring production problems in PDF, EPS and PostScript files, with the help of hot-folder specifications. Asura preflights incoming files, while Solvero automatically repairs common problems. The system keeps a log of all changes made to a file. According to the developer, this coupled solution is most popular among newspaper publishers, which receive a wide range of digital file formats.
http://www.onevision.com

AdCheck: This preflight software developed by Total Integration, AdCheck 2.1 allows users to open and view production-image format files, including TIFF/IT, CT, HC and LW, using a standard Mac workstation. Its Show Info prompt provides detailed information about the file, including size and colors used.
http://www.totalint.com

Markzware MarkzNet: This preflight software developed by Markzware, MarkzNet is not an out-of-the-box preflighting solution. Rather, it's a blend of the company's popular FlightCheck technology with systems integration. For high-volume production environments, MarkzNet provides a Web-based portal into a company's production workflow. Customers submit files with drag-and-drop simplicity. Files are automatically inspected for flaws or conflicts with the recipient's specifications and either pass or fail. Failed files are rejected and both recipient and sender are immediately alerted to the problem. If the file passes, it's automatically forwarded to the next stage of production for a truly seamless digital workflow. This software is not recommended because it is a web based tool and has proved to be really slow and not productive to many users.
http://www.markzware.com

Preflight Online: This preflight software developed from a partnership between Extensis and WAM!NET, Preflight Online is a Web-based solution for printers and publishers that need a custom-branded solution for receiving digital files from customers and advertisers. It accepts a wide range of file formats, including EPS, native Quark and Adobe PDF, preflights them and forwards files that pass directly to the recipient's FTP server. There's a one-time admin charge, as well as a monthly subscription fee that's based on the customer's actual inspection traffic. This software is not recommended because it is a web based tool and has proved to be really slow and not productive to many users.
http://www.extensis.com http://workspace.wamnet.com

TIFF/ITeyes: This preflight software developed by Rorke Data, enables users to view the complete data in TIFF/IT-P1 files, the widely adopted accredited standard for digital ad exchange. Users can measure X-Y coordinates, as well as CMYK values. http://www.rorke.com

SpeedFlow Check: This preflight software developed by OneVision, SpeedFlow Check is one component of a suite of tools that preflights, edits and imposes PDF, EPS and PostScript files. Files that pass SpeedFlow Check inspection are saved in PostScript or PDF form (depending on the manufacturer's or publisher's workflow) and sent to a hot-folder on the server. Problems may be fixed manually in SpeedFlow Edit and electronically routed to SpeedFlow Impose for impositioning.

Biking - The Ultimate Adventure

There is nothing like the freedom of the open road and the feel of the sheer power of your wheels. However before you rush out to try your new vehicle there are a few things to think about.

Choice of bike: if this is your first bike do not spend a large amount of money. Bear in mind that you will not be keeping your first set of wheels for long. You will do a lot of learning and need a cheap but sturdy bike to start on.

Test driving- There are many different types of bikes so always test drive them and get the feel of the bike before you buy.

Dont get stuck with a dud. Try to find a more experienced friend to help you check out your purchase. Educate yourself on the bikes you like before going to the dealer or buying from a private party.

Try to get a good used bike at first-cheaper and good for practice.

Safety: There are more accidents on the road involving bikes than ever before. To save you from a gnarly accident here are a few tips:

Places to be careful of-intersections

The culprits-an easy guess, cars violating your rights. They often turn out in front of you.

How do you get hit-you are a small vehicle and people simply dont see you. There is always a certain amount of drunk drivers.

How to make yourself more conspicuous. Make sure that you are dressed in a colored jacket and helmet. Your clothing and helmet should have reflectors on them for night riding. Consider taking a course, this will teach you a lot of safety tips and how to control your bike to avoid accidents. Wear proper eye protection to ensure maximum vision.

Protect yourself with; full coverage headgear, heavy boots and jacket with gloves.

Maintaining your wheels and looking after your bike is very important. Always keep your bike in good condition. Learn all that you can about looking after your wheels yourself and also take your bike to the shop for regular check ups and oil changes.

Choosing the right insurance: biking has its own dangers its part of the territory, so you will need to get some good coverage for you and your bike. Remember to shop around to find the best prices and value for money. You can check online and in your yellow pages for insurance companies.

Youre ready to hit the road: Now comes the exciting part trying out your new wheels! Try to do this on a quiet road and everyday. It is good to get a bit of practice and build up your confidence before hitting the streets. When you feel confident go out on the road at a less busy time and work up your confidence. Use a little caution at first to avoid getting into accidents.

A Day In A Video Game Virtual World

An 11th grader comes home from school and throws his or her backpack onto the floor and immediately jumps into their favorite chair and prepare themselves to transform themselves. A video game collector comes home from a long day of work as he places his brief case on to the floor and grabs a bite to eat before plopping down into his favorite chair to begin a day within a video game wonderland. The 11th grader is no longer a student; he or she is what ever character they want to be in a game. The same goes for the business man; hes no longer a suit but a character with special powers to conquer their own world. Todays game technology allows players to role play and become what ever character they desire.

Gone are the days when players of video games had to stay seated or in one spot in order to play a video game. The Nintendo Wii is the most recent video game available to game-aholics. The new Wii game uses a wireless remote rather than the wired game controller.

Unlike the two players per game session, four players can play Wii during a game sequence. This remote makes games much easier to play, even for first-time and inexperienced gamers.

The Game Survey Says!

When a new game is introduced or is about to be launched into the market, companies choose independent testers who actually play these new games and rate them accordingly. Its sort of like test driving a vehicle before giving the public their opinion. Although they these companies have professional testers of these games, the true testers are the consumers or children of consumers who play these games day in and day out. Their intention is not to test a game but to have fun playing it and becoming a part of a virtual society unlike the one that they are living in. In the game society, the play can control the out come of their destiny.

Video games of the 21st century are programmed so that the players can envision themselves in the games. This is all made possible due to the wireless remote. So if there is a scene, within a video game, that has a man running and climbing into a helicopter, the player can become engaged and apart of the action or lifestyle of a game.

Older game controls were very basic but they did the job for players. However, todays video game controls are equipped with built-in speakers; this gives it a surround sound effect. This controller is not limited to the surround sound feature; there are other features as well.

Do You Know The Answers To These Audio Book FAQs?

Do you know the answers to these audio book FAQs?

Audio books are rising quickly in popularity. More and more people are taking advantage of the modern MP3 techniques and iPods. Yet there are still many questions unanswered in this area. Find out what these are....

Do you know the answers to these audio book FAQs?

In as much as the audio book phenomenon isn't too new, there are still lots of people that don't know certain things about it.

I must confess that I was also ignorant about certain aspects of audio books myself.

During my early days of audio books, I had to ask certain questions and today I hear a lot of people asking the same such questions.

Who knows, you might also have such questions and you really want to find the answers to them.

If yes, then below are some of these questions and their answers:

>>> What is an audio book? An audio book is simply a book in audio format. Instead of receiving a physical hardcover or paperback book that you have to read, you will receive a CD, cassette or MP3 version of the book.

>>> What formats do audio books come in? Audio books come in normal cassette formats, CD formats and MP3 formats which can be played on cassette players, cd players or MP3 players respectively.

>>> What is an MP3 audio book? MP3 is simply a compression technique that makes it possible for reduction to be made to audio books so that they use less space (sometimes as little as 80%) compared to that of cassettes or CDs.

>>> How can MP3 audio books be played? MP3 audio books can be played on any new version of CD players that support the MP3 technology - mostly those that can accept a 4.75 diameter disk.

They an also be played on any PC that has Microsoft's Windows Media Player or other related software.

>>> What is an unabridged audio book? An unabridged audio book is one that was narrated word for word. In such an audio book, nothing was removed from the printed book. It has the exact content with that of the printed book, albeit in audio format.

>>> What is an abridged audio book? An abridged audio book is one that is shortened and doesn't contain the exact word for word narration as the printed book.

>>> What is a dramatized audio book? A dramatized audio book, as the name implies, is a dramatized "play-life" version of the printed book, with usual full cast, music and sound effects.

They just save their knowledge and experiences in their heads. If engineers want to write what they know and their experiences, they could share with other people, such like student, fresh engineers, or anyone else, who search everyday for such kind of information. Creed Fragrances: Live Like The Rich And Famous

In a world where new fragrances pop up seemingly every day from people who were born in the 80s (like Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson), wearing a fragrance bearing the name of the family who has made it since before you were born, since before the United States was born, in fact, can be a serious statement of refinement and maturity. It also puts you in a pretty select group. Perfume company Creed was founded in 1760 in England and about one hundred years later moved to Paris, where it is still headquartered today. Creed has designed fragrances for royalty and celebrity alike. Creeds fragrances are still mixed by hand, and contain more natural ingredients than any other French perfume house. They have created over two hundred original fragrances. While Olivier Creed, the sixth generation, is now at the helm, his son and daughter both work in the business as well, which promises to stay in the family for the foreseeable future. Olivier travels the world to find the choicest (and often most expensive) of ingredients.

The oldest fragrance still in Creeds lineup (they currently produce 48 different scents) is Royal English Leather, which was created for King George III of England. You probably remember him as the guy against whom we fought the Revolutionary War.

One of Creeds fragrances, Fleurissimo, was designed for Grace Kelly as a wedding present at the behest of her groom, Prince Rainier III of Monaco. A floral scent, it combines Bulgarian rose, tuberose, violet, and Florentine iris. Kelly and the prince were married in 1956, and the fragrance endures today, a textbook definition of a classic. It was also a favorite of American icons Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Madonna.

Originally designed for Cary Grant and now worn by the likes of Clint Eastwood and George Clooney, as well as some women, Creeds Green Irish Tweed is spicier, but with some of the same notes as Fleurissimo, such as Florentine iris and violet. It also adds sandalwood, ambergris, and French verbena.

The house of Creed has not rested on its laurels in recent past, though. Current Master perfumer Olivier Creed created Silver Mountain Water, inspired by the French mountains. Departing from more famous muses, Creed designed this fragrance for himself, though it is a unisex cologne. Its predominant scents are green tea and black currant. It is worn by British soccer star David Beckham, while his wife Victoria, formerly of the Spice Girls, prefers Creeds Royal Water.

Direct Mail Marketing: Message In A Bottle

As you empty your mailbox, do you wonder why so many companies choose to send you a load of communication about their products and services? If you never respond to such letters, theres a good chance you believe no one else does either. But before you dismiss direct mail marketing as a waste of everyones time, maybe you should look at its advantages and why it has caught the fancy of so many marketers.

What is direct mail marketing it is simply a means to reach your customer directly, generally through paper or electronic mail. Direct mail that comes through the post usually contains a letter, a brochure or flyer and perhaps a postage-paid reply envelop. The electronic version might take the form of a plain email, newsletter or even a fancy brochure with music and flash animation. Regardless of the format, the crux of direct mail marketing is that the sender selects who should receive the communication, based on a consideration of several factors which have helped him identify prospective customers. For example, a furniture store might choose to communicate with all those people who have purchased a house recently in the neighborhood.

Why is it so popular direct mail marketing has several advantages, the first one being that this is the most targeted form of advertising. As a marketer, you decide who should receive your communication, and when. Thus, direct mail marketing helps to minimize waste. It also increases the chance of your message getting noticed we at least glance at our letters before trashing them, but its not necessary that we would notice an advertisement in our favorite magazine.

Since direct mail reaches a pre-defined group, theres probably a better chance of getting the constituents to take action. A good example is that of an optometrist who sends reminder letters about an eye exam that is due.

Another big advantage of direct mail marketing is that it allows a higher degree of customization, and lends a one on one feel to the communication. Better still, you have the opportunity to tweak the message even during an ongoing campaign.

Direct mail can also spur immediate action sending coupons is a proven way of inducing customers to try a product. Again, a discount offer on a magazine subscription is quite likely to work well with regular readers. Unlike advertising, where theres usually a gap between the timing of the communication and the resultant effect, the impact of direct mail marketing is quickly felt.

Whats more, the results are measurable, thus enabling marketers to calculate their return on investment.

What can it be used for direct mail can be used extensively across the marketing life cycle. You might use a simple flyer to create awareness about a new product, or induce trial by sending out coupons. At the same time, business to business marketers might target prospective customers with the highest potential to convert to real leads. Loyalty Programs use direct mail very effectively to create a community of committed customers.

How do I do it that depends on the size of your mailing list, and other considerations such as available manpower and budget. If youd like to do it in-house, mass mailing software such as the one on www.massmailsoftware.com can help ease the drudgery of printing and labeling those letters. Alternatively, direct mail agencies like MailersClub www.mailersclub.com will take care of the entire printing and mailing logistics. You can even buy a targeted mailing list if you havent yet compiled a customer database.

Sounds too good to be true? Youre obviously wondering where the catch is. Well, the cost of reaching a customer using direct mail marketing is higher compared to other media. However, this is compensated by the fact that you reach a very targeted audience. At the end of the day, you can measure the returns on a direct mail campaign, and that might prove to be the decider!

Las Vegas: A Great Group Travel Destination

Most people have heard that Las Vegas is Disneyland for adults. What you might not know is that Las Vegas makes a great group travel destination for your next group tour, company retreat, multi generational family vacation or destination wedding.

With over 1100 flights a day landing and departing from the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, transportation to your destination should not be a problem for anyone in your group. Over 125 cities offer direct flights to and from Las Vegas as well. Shuttles from the airport to Strip and Downtown hotels are plentiful and inexpensive. No matter when the individuals making up your group arrive, they will have no trouble getting from the airport to their hotel on their own with a few friendly tips before they leave home.

Upon arrival at their hotel, if their rooms are not ready, you will find friendly bell staffs that are willing to keep their bags for them until check in time. This makes it convenient for travelers to decide what time of the day they would like to arrive in Las Vegas. By planning your first group bus tour, group event, or group meal later in the evening or even early the next day, your group has time to arrive on a schedule that works for them and they wont feel as if they have missed out on anything by arriving later in the day if they need to due to personal or airline schedules.

No matter what kid of budget your group has to work with, there will be plenty of dining and hotel options to choose from. If you are planning group travel for a student group of college students, you will be interested in a different Las Vegas vacation than a multi generational family vacation group. An upscale, luxury minded travel group will be able to find the perfect group travel vacation as will the budget minded group tour leader. Dining options run the gamut from a menu of over 30 items for under $1.00 to a gourmet, 5 star meal prepared by one of the countrys fines chefs.

When it comes to activities, motor coach tours, bus tours or walking tours are all viable options for groups with numerous attractions or group tours to choose from. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Valley of Fire State Park, and Hoover Dam can all be enjoyed on a group bus tour as well as a tour to the Grand Canyon, just six hours away with lots of optional tours and excursions available for your group along the way.

Groups traveling with kids (or kids at heart) might enjoy a bus tour of roller coasters and theme park like attractions. Any group would enjoy a night time bus tour of the neon lights Las Vegas is famous for.

With the multitude of hotels, dining choices, and bus tour options, planning your group travel itinerary may seem overwhelming. I always recommend looking for a company that specializes in planning group travel when it comes to planning such a multi-faceted trip. Companies like Exploring America for adult groups or Adventure Student Travel for college student groups can take care of all of the finer details, many times get you better prices, and leave you stress free and with nothing to do but pack your lucky rabbits foot for your fabulous Las Vegas vacation. Good luck!

Chartered Plane Rides

If convenience in air travel is what you are looking for, then what better way to go about your trip than by chartering a private jet to take you places? Aside from the obvious fact that you have the plane for yourself, you can also do away with problems concerning security and the inconvenience of dealing with other people you would prefer not to encounter.

If you think about this kind of air travel as a good choice in order to experience luxury and a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel like a royalty, you have to think again. Chartering a private aircraft for the purposes of traveling from one place to another actually has disadvantages that would not have been prevalent when you had your travel as a simple couch flyer in a commuter aircraft. The obvious critique is the absurd cost, when chartering a private aircraft you actually pay convenience for the value of air tickets in two hundred folds or even more. A chartered flight actually is the most expensive type of transportation available in the field of transportation today. Aside from the fact that you pay on the basis of miles traveled, you need to take into consideration also the fact that you actually provide a different payment for the personnel thereof.

Another disadvantage of flying a chartered plane is the fact that the diligence adopted by the person in control of the same is only ordinary diligence, and not the extraordinary diligence warranted in commuter flights. Now what is the difference in these duties of care and how would it negatively affect the use of chartered flights?

Extraordinary diligence is the diligence required to be exercised by common carriers as part of the office of their functions. It actually means the adoption of that level of care taking into consideration all circumstances of time, people, and place. The duty of a common carrier is to prove that this amount of care have actually been complied with, and in any case that there would be an accident resulting from the conduct of their functions then the presumption is that the common care failed to exercise that amount of care incumbent upon it to perform. This type of diligence is incumbent upon commuter flights to adopt. On the other hand, chartered flights, not being a common carrier because of its already private nature are only required to adopt that level of care a good father of a family is incumbent to take, and that is ordinary diligence in the conduct of its proceedings.

Briggs & Riley Luggage

Luggage is basically designed to protect your clothing and other belongings while traveling. In order to accomplish that goal, the luggage has to be able to withstand the rigors of airline, train, cruises, and taxi travel. Briggs & Riley has designed a line of luggage that gives travelers a better travel experience. Every case is provided with a no-holds-barred guarantee that covers any and all damage, even if caused by a common carrier. They have developed a system called "reality engineering" and it means that Briggs & Riley luggage examines every damaged piece, and continuously improves and refines their cases. Should your case need repair, it can be shipped back to the company for repair or often returned to the place of purchase for repairs at no charge.

Besides the lifetime warranty, which covers functional damage from any kind of travel mishap, Briggs & Riley has many features that make it one of the most popular cases to accompany you on your travels. Theyre exclusive outside handles means that the packing space inside is "flat" without the tube for the handle. It gives you much more room to pack, and a smooth surface to hold your clothes. Your clothing is more likely to arrive wrinkle free when packed on a flat foundation. It's smarter to have your handle on the outside where it cannot interfere with your packing. The handle can also be adjusted to two positions. This makes is comfortable and convenient for all travelers.

Briggs & Riley baseline is available in two different models. The NXpandables has a one-touch expansion system for more space when needed. With just the push of a button, you can pack in up to 30% more space. This will accommodate a longer trip, or allow you to bring home many more souvenirs and purchases. They also offer Superlights, which are the lightest upright cases in their class. All of the wheeled pieces are equipped with quiet-glide, wide profile wheels. There is also a Smartlink system, which allows you to quickly attach a smaller bag to the front of the larger wheeled case. Double zipper pulls are easy to open and close and are lockable. Each piece is equipped with the TSA combination lock. This is the only combination lock permitted for use when flying in or out of airports. These locks have a key entry that bypasses the combination lock, similar to a master key used in hotels. The key is only used by airport security personnel and is not available to anyone else. The leather top handles on the luggage are retractable making it both elegant and easy to carry.

Briggs & Riley luggage is made of 2520D ballistic nylon outer fabric. It is self-repairing and resists wear, tear, water, dirt, and abrasions. The corners are protected with ABX corner guards. These are impact-resistant shields designed to prevent corner damage from impact and scratching. The cases feature hybrid frames for durability, flexibility and shape retention. The baseline collection is known for its smart design with smart features. There are many totes and satchels designed with a back pocket, which will slide over the pull up handles. There are multiple organizer pockets inside for your travel essentials. Some of them have expansion features for longer or shorter trips. Many are designed to also be carried when sightseeing or for short overnight trips. Travel is simpler when you can pull your entire luggage with one hand. Both lines are available in three stylish attractive colors, black, olive, and crystal. Yes, it's as simple as that!

Bucovina - A Travel Guide To Romania's Region Of Painted Monasteries

Bucovina is a region of monasteries, unique in the world for their colorful exterior frescoes. Equally well worth the visit are the villages, still leading the traditional way of life, and the stunning landscapes.

The name Bucovina may not mean much to many people, but Bucovina, and its brave princes, played an important part in the history of the Balkans during the XV and XVI centuries, and in particular with regard to relations with the Ottoman Empire. The impressive number of churches to be found there, with their fine exterior and interior frescoes, have been preserved and handed down from mediaeval times, and because of their uniqueness and artistic value, were added to UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List in 1993. There is, indeed, no other place in the world where such a group of churches, with such high quality exterior frescoes, are to be seen.

The churches were founded, in most cases, as family burial places of princes and high nobles. Each painter, although following the canonical iconographic programme, interpreted the scenes in a slightly different way. The scenes were first painted on the interior walls, and then extended to the exterior ones. The reasons for such vast scenes were both religious and didactic: to promote Orthodoxy and to educate the illiterate.

Tourist information in Romania: The notion of "tourist information office" disappeared after the 1989 revolution because all the local tourist offices were abolished. The travel agencies created by the private sector took over the role of the tourist information offices. They can provide you with the information and services for organizing tours in Bucovina. Because Romanians themselves increasingly prefer to travel outside Romania, the travel agencies are more specialized in organizing international travel. Local tours have been neglected for many years but are now flourishing again.

The private sector is now the most advanced, and appreciated both inside and outside the country for the western level of comfort and services.

Tourist information can also be found in the annual publication of the Romanian Yellow Pages. All bookshops sell travel guides, but it is not so easy to find travel guides of Bucovina in the main towns. An exception could be the newspaper stores.

Our travel guide: Bucovina - A Travel Guide to Romania's Region of Painted Monasteries is an excellent full-color book on a wide variety of cultural heritage subjects from mural paintings and archaeology to architecture and local traditions. It also gives practical information and tips on travel to and in Romania, what to see, where to stay, what to buy and to eat, to get the most of Bucovina.

We hope that you will enjoy your travel to Bucovina!
